The festival is made possible by support from the IU Ottoman and Modern Turkish Studies Chair, the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center, the IU Turkish Student Association and the Peasant Disco. This annual festival is organized by Turkish student volunteers. This year's festival is presented by Ihsan Topaloglu, Sinem Siyahhan, and Turgay Bayraktar.

The screening of “Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul”, a documentary on the music scene in Istanbul, on Saturday, March 27th follows the Peasant Disco; a unique international dance party in Bloomington focusing on music from the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Central Asia including Turkey. Synopsis:
Asim Noyan and his gang make up a rambling collective, which concerns itself with a range of criminal activity, running from car theft to fraud. An inveterate womaniser, Asim meets the failed comedian Superman impersonator Samet while fleeing from an angry husband. Desperate Samrt finds himself unwittingly implicated in the life of Asim's gang. Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Ocak, a highly educated couple, unknowingly buy a stolen car from one of Asim's gang members for their daughter, Umut. Frustrated with the fraud and the police, Mrs. Ocak and Umut decide to go after the gang members to get their money back.

Synopsis:
Ali, a famous Turkish journalist who's made a name for himself trhough tackling dangerous political issues, meets Irini at an international journalism conference. Irini, daughter of Greek parents who had to migrate from Turkey long time ago, is also a journalist comes to Istanbul for the first time to visit Ali, her lover, and explore her father's city. One day, Ali mysteriously disappears. Irini ends up looking for Ali in the chaotic atmosphere of Istanbul, where his image and that of her father become interwined. Her search leads to mystery and a revelation.

Synopsis:
The documentary digs deeper into Istanbul's musical and social history. It begins when Alexander Hacke, bassist for German avant-everthing band Einsturzende Neubauten, worked on Head-On's soundtrack and was bewitched by the local sounds. The camera follows him on his return trip as he records every tune he stumbles over. In briskly edited sequences peppered with fascinating found footage, eeach genre embodied in Istanbul is tightly linked to a neighborhood. The grunge kids ape Nirvanain gentrirying Beyoglu, hip-hop takes baby steps in quaint Kadikoy, and clarinetist Selim Sesler drops jawa in a rural bar in Kesan, a city ...There is a general fear among the subjects in the documentary that local traditions are dying amind the rush to modernization. This uncertainty is captured by pop music icon Sezen Aksu in her command performance of "Memories of Istanbul" evoking the city's rapidly disappearing past with impossibly noble resignation.

Synopsis:
The film takes place in the 17th century Istanbul, the capital of Ottoman Empire under the rule of Sultan Murad IV. The Sultan resists the domination of his mother, the Valide Kosem Sultan, and tries to enforce strict law and order in the empire. In an oppressive socio-political times, Hezarfen Ahmet Celebi, whose passion is to explore, researches to understand the mechanisms of bird flight. Meanwhile, a Venetian ship that has been captured by Algerian pirates is brought into Istanbul. The young wounded lady named Francesca, the muted daughter of the Captain who has been working on deciphering Leonardo da Vinci's works in Rome, becomes a slave for Hazerfen Ahmet Celebi. Hazerfen Ahmet Celebi heals Francesca's wounds, and soon Hazerfen and Francesca fall in love and start working together to find out the secrets of flying. However, their adventorous spirit and experimentations raise eyebrows for some.
